Terms of service
The rules for using WorkOnlineJob. Written plainly, on purpose.

1. Who we are
WorkOnlineJob ("we", "us") is an online marketplace where employers post small paid tasks and workers complete them. We operate from [COMPANY ADDRESS] and can be reached at [SUPPORT EMAIL].
We are a marketplace and a payment-holding service for the jobs posted on it. We are not your employer, and we are not a bank. We do not do the work and we do not commission it.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- One person, one account. Give real details — we pay money out against them.
- Keep your password private. You are responsible for what happens on your account.
- The M-Pesa number on your account must be yours. We pay workers only to that number.
3. Rules for workers
We never ask you for money. Joining is free, taking a task is free, and we charge you nothing to withdraw. Our worker service fee (section 6) is withheld from the pay being released to you, out of money already in escrow — it is never collected from you and never taken from your wallet.
- Read the instructions, the job value and your take-home pay before you accept a task.
- Do the work yourself. Do not submit copied, automated or faked work.
- If an employer asks for changes, you can fix the work and resubmit it. Until you do, that submission is not payable.
- Only approved work is paid. Rejected work is not paid.
4. Rules for employers
- Describe the task clearly, including what counts as acceptable work.
- A job only goes live once you have funded it in full — the job value for every slot, plus our service fee.
- Review submissions promptly. Work sits unpaid until you act on it, so leaving it is unfair to the worker.
- You may ask for changes instead of rejecting. The work goes back to the worker with your note and no money moves.
- You may reject work, but you must give a reason the worker can read.
- Do not reject work you intend to use. That is grounds for account closure.
5. Escrow and release of money
When you fund a job, the money leaves your M-Pesa in one payment: the job value for every slot, plus our employer service fee. The job value is held by us in escrow and recorded against that job; the service fee is recorded against the job too, and part of it is returned if you cancel (section 8).
Money leaves escrow in exactly two ways:
- Approval. You approve a submission, and the full job value for that slot leaves escrow: the worker's wallet is credited with the job value less the worker service fee, and we keep that fee. This is the only thing that pays a worker, and it happens straight away.
- Return to you. If the job is cancelled, whatever is still in escrow goes to your WorkOnlineJob wallet, with the unused share of your service fee.
Two review outcomes move no money at all:
- Changes requested (a revision). The submission goes back to the worker with your note. Nothing leaves escrow, the slot stays taken, and the worker can resubmit for review.
- Rejection. The submission is closed with your reason and is never paid. The money stays in escrow and the slot opens again for another worker.
We do not approve work on your behalf and there is no automatic approval: if you never review a submission, nothing is released. A job closes once every slot has been approved; if slots are left over, cancel the job to get that money back.
Escrow is a holding arrangement, not a deposit account. Money held in escrow earns no interest, is not a bank deposit, and is not insured by any deposit-protection scheme.
6. Fees
Our commission is split between the two sides of a job, and both halves are worked out on the job value — the pay the employer set for one slot of work.
- Employer service fee — currently 5% of the job value, charged on top and paid up front with the job. It is always itemised on screen before you pay.
- Worker service fee — currently 20% of the job value, withheld from the payout when the work is approved. It comes out of money the employer has already placed in escrow.
- Workers are never charged up front. Nothing to join, nothing to take a task, nothing to be paid, nothing to withdraw. We never ask a worker to send us money, and we never take money from a worker's wallet to pay a fee.
- On a KES 1,000 task at today's rates: the employer pays KES 1,050, the worker receives KES 800, and we keep KES 250 — 25% of the job value in total.
- M-Pesa may charge its own transaction cost. That is Safaricom's charge, not ours, and it is shown before you confirm.
Both rates are platform settings we can change. The rates and amounts shown in the app when you post a job or accept a task are the ones that apply to it, and we will tell you before a change takes effect.
7. Withdrawals
Approved pay, net of the worker service fee, sits in your WorkOnlineJob wallet until you ask for it. We charge nothing to withdraw. You can withdraw to the M-Pesa number on your account once your available balance reaches the minimum, which is a platform setting, currently KES 100. The current minimum is always shown in your wallet.
The amount leaves your wallet when you request the withdrawal. If the M-Pesa send fails, we put it straight back.
We may hold a withdrawal while we check it if the account shows signs of fraud, a duplicate identity, or work that breaks these terms. If we hold one, we will tell you why.
8. Refunds and cancellations
You can cancel a job that is still a draft, active or paused. When you cancel, we return to your WorkOnlineJob wallet:
- Everything left in escrow — the job value of every slot that was never approved, including slots whose work you rejected.
- The unused share of your service fee — the fee was charged on the whole job, so we keep only the part covering slots that were actually approved and paid. If no work was approved, the whole fee comes back.
For example, a job of four slots at KES 1,000 costs KES 4,200. Cancel it with one slot approved and KES 3,000 of escrow plus KES 150 of the KES 200 fee returns to your wallet.
- Worker side — once work is approved, that payment is final. We do not claw it back from a worker because an employer changed their mind.
- Wallet balances can be withdrawn to M-Pesa. We do not refund to the original M-Pesa transaction.
9. Disputes
If a worker thinks a rejection was unfair, or an employer thinks a submission was faked, either side can contact support within 7 days. We look at the job instructions and the submission, and we decide. Our decision is how the escrow for that submission is settled.
We are not a court. For anything beyond the escrow for that job, the two sides deal with each other.
10. What is not allowed
- Tasks that are illegal, dishonest or harmful — fake reviews, fake accounts, spam, harassment, anything sexual, anything involving minors.
- Tasks that ask a worker to pay money, send money, or share an M-Pesa PIN, password or ID document.
- Multiple accounts, bots, or scripts used to claim tasks.
- Taking contact details from the platform to arrange work off-platform, then avoiding our escrow.
- Asking anyone for payment in exchange for work on WorkOnlineJob. We never do this, and nor may you.
11. Suspension and closing accounts
We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. If we do, money already earned and legitimately owed to you stays yours and can be withdrawn. We may hold funds we believe came from fraud while we investigate.
You can close your own account at any time. Withdraw your balance first.
12. What we do not promise
- We do not promise earnings. There may be few tasks, or none, that suit you. Nothing on this site is an income guarantee.
- We do not promise that any job will be posted, filled, or approved.
- We do not guarantee the quality of work, or the behaviour of any employer or worker.
- The service may be unavailable at times. M-Pesa outages are outside our control.
- To the extent the law allows, our liability to you is limited to the amount held in escrow or in your wallet on the job concerned.
13. Changes and law
We may update these terms. If a change matters to you — fees, escrow, payouts — we will tell you before it takes effect. Continuing to use the platform after that means you accept the change.
These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, and the courts of Kenya have jurisdiction over any dispute about them.
